In 1948 Jakob Funke and Erich Brost founded the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) in Essen. In doing so, they lay the foundation for what is one of the largest and most important media houses in Germany today: FUNKE MEDIENGRUPPE. The leading daily newspapers in the region are the flagship and traditional heart of FUNKE-Medien in North Rhine-Westphalia. Every day they provide millions of people with the latest news, analyzes and backgrounds. With their credible and high-quality journalistic reporting, they make an important contribution to journalistic diversity and the provision of basic information to citizens. They accompany the people in NRW through everyday life, help to classify what is happening and to form an opinion.
Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ)
The Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung is not only the origin of today's FUNKE MEDIENGRUPPE - it is also Germany's largest regional newspaper. It is the leading daily newspaper in the district metropolises of Essen, Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Oberhausen and Mülheim. In its entire distribution area - from the southern Münsterland to the Niederbergische, from the Niederrhein to the Unna area - the WAZ reaches around a third of the population.
The WAZ is offered as a printed newspaper and e-paper. The printed edition is delivered to our subscribers from Monday to Saturday until 6 a.m., so that they always start the day well-informed. Thanks to the various local editions, customers always know what is currently going on in their district.
The digital edition corresponds to the printed newspaper only in that the subscribers can read it on up to five mobile devices at the same time the evening before. The supplements, which are always enclosed with the printed edition, are also made available electronically to digital subscribers. In addition, a monthly gift in the form of a free magazine is included in the e-paper subscription.
Both a subscription to the printed newspaper and a subscription to the e-paper include all WAZ + articles on waz.de. Editorial articles that are always up to date are published on waz.de.
The WAZ has around 20,000 unique users per month.
The commission depends on the subscription sold. Information about the amount of the commission can be found in the Commission tab.
